How to Find Your Influencer Archetype

By Kenidy Springer, Account Manager @ Foodie Tribe

We all have different ways of behaving — Some of our behaviors derive from our environment, but most of them are connected to our inherited traits. Each of our individual traits and behaviors make up an archetype. But how does an archetype play a role in the social media world?

An archetype can best be explained as a deeper dive into a specific niche — similar to how influencers are broken up into nano, micro, macro, and celebrity influencers based on their following size. Take foodie influencers for example: On a broad spectrum, they’re influencers, partners, or creators who promote food, restaurants, and/or beverage brands. But when you dive deeper into a foodie’s Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok account, you begin to notice a specific focus they may have within the food influencer category.

Below is a list of examples of food influencer archetypes and niches:

  • Recipe developer or chef

  • Restaurant-goer

  • Parent foodie

  • Food educator

  • Vegan foodie

  • Baker

  • Clean + holistic eating

  • Health + wellness

  • A combination of the above!

By identifying what kind of archetype you are, you can hone in on specific skills that resonate more with your audience. You might be thinking, “OK, that sounds great, but how do I find my archetype?” Let’s break it down together:

  1. Determine your broad category: Let’s go with ‘food influencer’ as an example. Think about what you enjoy about photographing or creating videos within the food influencer category. Ask yourself the following questions to get an idea of which archetype you’d like to dive into deeper:

    • Do you like trying new hot spot restaurants in your area?

    • Do you have a skill for developing unique recipes?

    • Do you like sharing health and wellness tips with others?

    • What is your favorite part about being a food influencer?

    • If you relate to all of the above, how can you balance a little bit of everything?

  2. Do your research: Check out other creators who have an archetype. Which type of content resonates with you?

  3. Take action: How, you might ask? Let’s pick the archetype of a recipe developer, for example.

    • Start by planning out the content you want to post. As a recipe developer, you should assemble a list of your favorite recipes.

    • Create content for each of those recipes. This will be batched content to help develop awareness for your archetype on your platform.

    • You will begin to notice a shift in the brands that you’re interested in working with, as they will be more specific to your archetype. In the example of a recipe developer, you will notice that more kitchen-staple brands (such as chicken brands or sauce brands) will start to reach out to you.

Now that you’re familiar with what an influencer archetype is and how to find yours, it’s important to understand why it’s crucial. When a brand works with Foodie Tribe, they provide us with a specific type of influencer they’re seeking. As you develop your platform with your archetype in mind, you increase your chances of being selected for a campaign. That being said, you can always shift your archetype over time, but be sure it’s a smooth transition and that you’re still appealing to your target audience.
