Effective Community Management: Building a Brand's Community on Social Media

Would you be shocked if we told you that community management is a vital part of a social media strategy? You shouldn’t be!

Community management is an effective and pivotal part of a brand’s strategy on social media. It refers to all social media communication with the brand’s audience - responding to comments and direct messages, commenting on UGC and tagged content, and participating in relevant conversations. It provides support to your audience, builds relationships and brand loyalty, increases brand awareness, and provides value to the brand. When a human element is present in a brand’s social media strategy, like community management, people gravitate more toward the content and the brand. It makes a brand more relatable, which encourages users to follow, engage, and become a loyal audience member/customer – a goal every brand should want to achieve.

So, what does effective community management look like?

  • Prioritize proactive engagement

  • Actively engage with your audience and be authentic and transparent when doing so

  • Encourage engagement through your copywriting

  • Show empathy and understanding towards your audience through your content and copywriting

  • Prove to your audience that your brand can resonate with them through the content that is created

Building a brand’s community on social media is not easy; it’s important to implement a strategy specifically for community management when building out your brand’s social strategy. For example, a brand should be responding to comments at least 3-5 times a week to show their presence on social media. On Foodie Tribe’s social media pages, we respond to every comment, DM, or tagged content. Doing this and following the guidelines the brand creates, will allow you to see what in the strategy works or doesn’t when trying to increase your follower count, awareness, and engagement.
