Instagram Is Hiding Likes in the U.S.

Ever since Instagram began hiding likes in other countries, we knew it was only a matter of time before it happened here in the U.S. And now it has - hidden likes have been rolled out.

Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, says the reason for this is “a bid to make Instagram a safer place on the internet. He issued a warning a few weeks ago on Twitter:

How will it work? Here are the key takeaways:

  • Likes will not completely disappear

  • Likes will be hidden to followers but still visible to account owners

  • To see how many likes your post got, tap on “others” beneath the photo and you will be able to see the number of likes

How will this affect influencers?

  • It allows you to better focus on your content instead of on the numbers

  • It gives you the opportunity to be more authentic

  • It opens the door for brands to focus on other metrics like saves, etc.

As hidden likes become more common in the U.S., are you for or against this change? How will it affect your content and your mindset?
