Why Brands Should Use Instagram’s Collaboration Feature

By: Emily Klempel, Senior Social Media Manager @ Foodie Tribe

In 2021, Instagram released the “Collaboration” feature. This allows you to add another account as a collaborator on your post, which means it will show up on both accounts’ profiles. It’s like tagging someone in your post, but with increased visibility!

There are a few things to keep in mind when learning how to collaborate. First: The account that originally posts the content is the one with full control over it. This includes editing the caption, audio, and thumbnail. However, the account added as the collaborator does have access to the post analytics. Second: If it’s a Reel, you have to choose an audio that both accounts have the right to use on Instagram.

Lastly, the post will appear on both profiles on the date it was posted — regardless of when the collaborator accepts the request. For example, if the account added as a collaborator doesn’t accept the request until a week later, it will show up back-dated on their profile.  It’s best to accept the collaboration request as soon as possible to get the widest reach and engagement.

Collaborating with other accounts can be very beneficial, especially if you’re trying to grow your audience. It allows you to reach both your audience and the audience of the account with which you’re collaborating. This will give your post more impressions and engagement, and can lead to follower growth for both accounts. Keep in mind that the post should still be relevant to both accounts’ followers, or else it won’t resonate with both audiences.

Remember — Instagram rewards you for using its newer features, so utilize them as much as you can and stay informed on the latest updates!
