An Update on the Instagram Algorithm
Influencers and brands alike should be keeping tabs on the Instagram algorithm. We know that it is constantly changing, but how does the algorithm work in 2020? What are some things you can do to help beat the algorithm while continuing to grow?
The algorithm knows what you like. You’ve probably noticed that you see specific types of posts more than others. The algorithm factors in what you engage with, and how, to make the prediction that that is they kind of content you care about. Thus, whatever ways you engage determine the order of your newsfeed and also the type of content you will see in the future. Want to get your audience engaging more? Consistency and frequency is key. Posting on a regular basis and being active on stories is a crucial element to beating the algorithm. Influencers plan content in many ways, and brands can do the same. Regardless of which side you are on, take the time to figure out what is best for you or your brand based off of the amount of content you have. From there you can determine if you have enough to post multiple times a day, or just once per day. Make sure to stay consistent, though. If you go back and forth, you will see the effect of the algorithm.
How much time people spend on the app. From your audience’s view, the more time they spend on the app, the more likely it will show them fresh content and frequent users news feeds will be more chronological. For someone who doesn’t spend as much time on the app, they will probably just see highlights from the day.
How long ago a photo was posted. Timing is another important aspect to take into consideration. Your analytics will show you when most of your followers are online, so be sure to post during these times so they are more likely to see your content and engage. Brush up on why analytics matter.
Our final word of advice: focus on growing your bonds with influencers in your niche, as well as creating new bonds with others. Do what you can to be part of the supportive community around you.
